Weather on the beach and in San Jose?

My wife and I read about how temperate CR is all year long and how most places don't require A/C, but we've been to Florida in the summer and found 80 degrees with high humidity and sun to be pretty unpleasant and are worried that the beaches of CR might be too hot and humid to be comfortable. We come from Phoenix and are accustomed to a dry heat and would like to be cooler during retirement. Have thought about living up in the central valley or mountains as a result.

Can anyone living in San Jose OR a beach town comment on heat, humidity, and mosquitos there?
