moved to samos & need help

hello to all you e-pats who have moved to greece
My partner and I have moved to Samos 3 weeks ago, made some fabulous greek friends who are helping us find an apartment to rent while we look for land to buy and build our houes/small business. Would love to hear from others who have done the same and who are willing to share their experiences.
We're in the process of getting a tax number (on Samos you need a greek person to vouch for you!! is this normal?)
Currently looking for a car but the prices seem to be so expensive for a used car (well compared to english prices that is) would it be best to go to Athens? Has anyone experienced the trials and tribulations of bringing in a UK car into Greece? I understand that you have to take it out of the country every 6 months!??
I hope that some of you take sympathy on us and can make our move run smoother
