Leaving teenager behind??

Hi there, My husband has been offered an opportunity to work in US, which is great, but my daughter (his stepdaughter) will be going into final year of school and so wants to stay home with her father so she can finish school with her friends and in her own environment and apply for university over here. One bit of me is happy she has this option and is thinking about her schooling and another is devestated that she wouldn't want to move with us, she is 17. Has anyone any experience of leaving a teenager behind??? We have 2 small children (5 and 3) and I would stay at home and let my husband go on for a few months but I feel that they may be more affected by this in long run as they wouldn't understand where their Dad was gone. Other option is to say no to this opportunity altogether, but with our economie the way they are, can we really afford to say no to opportunities like this?? Any advice appreciated.
