REFUSED VISA- NOW WHAT?

I was recently refused a 6 mos visiting visa for myself and my minor daughter due to insufficient proof of finances, etc.
Which I understand now, I did not have all the documentation I needed. (has anyone else noticed the Brit Em website is seriously lacking in plain information)
I would like to take my daughter to the Uk to visit my best friend and learn about the culture. He will be providing all financial and living arrangements while we are there.
My question is what do I do now? Do I re-apply and hope I get the visas or do I pay someone to do them for me? I know if i just went there for a short vacation, they would probably turn me away upon landing there once they scan our passports.
My long term goal would be to move there, and I also have no idea how to do that either.
Any advice anyone?
