Last updated on Mar 12, 2023

Summary: A newcomer to Delaware should begin their search by researching the different neighborhoods and towns in the state. They should consider factors such as cost of living, commute times, and local amenities. They should also research the local real estate market to get an idea of what types of homes are available and what prices they can expect to pay. Homes in Delaware typically include amenities such as central air conditioning, updated kitchens, and spacious yards. Many homes also feature modern appliances, hardwood floors, and updated bathrooms. Depending on the area, some homes may also include features such as swimming pools, outdoor decks, and finished basements.

What do I need to know when buying property in Delaware?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Delaware, they said:

"When buying property in Delaware, it is important to thoroughly research the Delaware real estate market. Consider factors such as the general condition of the neighborhood, the applicable local zoning laws, current and past taxes, and the types of loans available. Additionally, be sure to engage a qualified real estate attorney who can provide insight into the existing or potential covenants or restrictions that might affect the property. Finally, be sure to have the title of the property checked to ensure effectiveness and to ensure it is free of encumbrances," remarked one foreigner who made the move to Delaware.
