What advice do overseas retirees have for others considering retiring abroad?

"Overseas retirees advise those considering retirement abroad to research the safety, culture, geography, and climate of the prospective location, and to take the time to visit multiple times in order to understand what life will be like. Make sure all financial aspects are accounted for, and research the health care costs and availability of medical care. Consider everything from unexpected taxes, to the paperwork and potential residency requirements. Decide how easily you will be able to communicate, and consider the available opportunities for recreation and socializing. Take into account the cost of travel both to and within the area, and any potential language barriers. Research the pros and cons of becoming a resident - or not - to understand the advantages and disadvantages of both scenarios. Last, but not least, retirees suggest trusting yourself, following your dreams, and taking the leap," explained a retiree in Nicosia.

What are the most challenging aspects of retiring in Nicosia?

"One of the most challenging aspects of retiring in Nicosia is the cost of living. The cost of housing, food, and other necessities can be quite high, making it difficult to maintain a comfortable lifestyle. Additionally, the language barrier can be a challenge for those who do not speak Greek or Turkish, as these are the two main languages spoken in Nicosia. Furthermore, the climate can be quite extreme, with hot summers and cold winters, making it difficult to adjust to the weather. Finally, the healthcare system in Nicosia can be difficult to navigate, as it is not as well-developed as in other countries," said a person in Nicosia.
