There is a small but active expat community in Kopavogur, with many retirees from different parts of the world choosing to settle here for its tranquility and natural beauty. Cultural attractions are plentiful in and around Kopavogur. The city is home to the Gerðarsafn Art Museum, which showcases modern and contemporary art, and the Natural History Museum, which offers insights into Iceland's unique flora and fauna. The city's cultural center, Salurinn, hosts a variety of concerts and performances throughout the year. For those who enjoy outdoor recreation, Kopavogur offers plenty of opportunities. The city is surrounded by beautiful landscapes, including mountains, geothermal hot springs, and the coastline. Hiking, bird watching, and nature photography are popular activities. The city also has a well-maintained network of cycling and walking paths. Kopavogur has a number of restaurants and cafes, offering both local and international cuisine.
