The city is known for its beautiful landscapes, including the stunning Mount Taranaki and the coastal walkway, which provide ample opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, walking, and cycling. The climate is temperate, making it comfortable for retirees to enjoy these activities year-round. New Plymouth has a thriving arts and culture scene. The city is home to the renowned Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre, which showcases contemporary art. The Puke Ariki museum and library is another cultural hub, offering a wealth of information about the region's history and Maori heritage.
