What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Bimini?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Bimini about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Bimini. The island has a small clinic, but for more serious medical needs, you may need to travel to Nassau or even Florida. Ensure that you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care and childbirth. Check if your insurance covers medical evacuation, in case you need to be transported to a hospital off the island for the birth or any complications. Find a local doctor or midwife who you trust and feel comfortable with. They can guide you through the pregnancy and help you make any necessary arrangements for the birth. Consider hiring a doula or birth coach who can provide emotional support and help you navigate the healthcare system. Prepare for the possibility that you may need to travel off the island for the birth. This could mean arranging accommodation and transport in advance, and ensuring that your passport and any necessary visas are up to date. If you plan to give birth on the island, make sure you have all the necessary supplies. This could include items like a birthing pool, birthing ball, or specific medications that may not be readily available in Bimini. Finally, connect with other expats who have had babies in the Bahamas. They can provide valuable advice and support, and may be able to recommend local resources," remarked another expat who made the move to Bimini, Bahamas.
