What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Anegada?

Answer this Question

We asked people in Anegada if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!...

"When visiting Anegada in the British Virgin Islands, it's important to respect the local customs and traditions. Avoid wearing revealing clothing, especially in public places, as it can be seen as disrespectful. It's also considered rude to take photos of locals without their permission. Don't litter or damage the environment, as the island is known for its pristine beaches and natural beauty. Respect the local wildlife and don't touch or feed the animals, especially the flamingos which are a protected species. Avoid discussing sensitive topics such as politics or religion, as these can lead to uncomfortable situations. It's also considered impolite to raise your voice or show anger in public. Remember to tip for good service, as it's customary in the British Virgin Islands. However, don't try to haggle or bargain in shops or markets, as this is not a common practice. Finally, remember that island time is a real thing in Anegada. People tend to move at a slower pace, so be patient and don't rush," commented one expat who made the move to Anegada, the British Virgin Islands.
