What are healthcare services like in Corn Islands?

Answer this Question

We asked retirees if they have access to good medical care in Corn Islands. They wrote...

"Healthcare services in Corn Islands are quite basic and limited. The islands have a few small health clinics that provide primary care services, including general medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics. These clinics are staffed by nurses and general practitioners, with a few specialists visiting occasionally. However, they lack advanced medical equipment and facilities, so serious medical conditions often require evacuation to the mainland. The clinics also face challenges such as shortages of medicines and medical supplies. Despite these limitations, healthcare services are generally accessible and affordable for the local population, thanks to Nicaragua's public healthcare system. However, for tourists and foreigners, it is recommended to have travel insurance that covers medical evacuation, as the local healthcare services may not meet their needs or standards," remarked another expat who made the move to Corn Islands, Nicaragua.
