What are healthcare services like in Thessaloniki?

Answer this Question

We asked retirees if they have access to good medical care in Thessaloniki. They wrote...

"Healthcare services in Thessaloniki are generally of a high standard, with a mix of public and private healthcare facilities available. The city is home to several well-equipped hospitals and clinics, staffed by highly trained medical professionals, many of whom speak English. Public healthcare is funded through social security and is available to all residents, although some services may require a small patient contribution. Private healthcare is also widely available and is often preferred by those who can afford it, due to shorter waiting times and a wider choice of doctors. Pharmacies are plentiful and well-stocked, and many medications that would require a prescription in other countries can be purchased over the counter. However, it's worth noting that while emergency care is generally good, non-emergency services can sometimes be slow, and the healthcare system as a whole can be bureaucratic and difficult to navigate for non-Greek speakers," said another expat in Thessaloniki, Greece.
