Is there a lot of crime in San Jose?

Answer this Question

We asked people if there is a lot of crime. They answered...

"Depends on what you call a lot. I don't think my neighborhood has much, I live in Rohrmoser. But I have friends in some areas with a lot of crime. For the most part, San Jose's better neighborhoods are safe. Last year was a very violent year for crime, however, with a spike in the murder rate. But I stay away from those areas," commented one expat who made the move to San Jose, Costa Rica.

"San Jose is generally considered to be a safe city, with low levels of crime compared to other cities in the region. However, petty crime such as pickpocketing and bag snatching can occur in crowded areas, so visitors should take precautions to protect their belongings. Additionally, there have been reports of violent crime in certain areas of the city, so it is important to be aware of your surroundings and take extra safety measures when travelling alone," remarked another expat in San Jose, Costa Rica.
