As a foreigner living in Brisbane, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?

Answer this Question

We asked expats in Brisbane if they have access to public healthcare in Brisbane. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...

"As a foreigner living in Brisbane, your access to public healthcare will depend on your visa status and the reciprocal healthcare agreements between Australia and your home country. If you are from a country with a reciprocal healthcare agreement, you may be eligible for Medicare, which provides access to public healthcare services, including subsidized or free treatment by healthcare professionals, free treatment and accommodation in public hospitals, and subsidized prescription medications. The public healthcare system in Australia is known for its high quality and efficiency, with well-equipped hospitals and highly trained medical professionals. However, waiting times for non-emergency treatments can be long, and you may need to take out private health insurance for services not covered by Medicare, such as dental care, physiotherapy, and ambulance services," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Brisbane, Australia.
