As a foreigner living in Athens, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?
We asked expats in Athens if they have access to public healthcare in Athens. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...
"As a foreigner living in Athens, you will have access to public healthcare if you are a legal resident and have registered with the Greek social security system. The public healthcare system in Greece is known as the National Healthcare Service (ESY) and provides a wide range of medical services, including primary care, hospital care, and emergency services. However, the quality of public healthcare in Greece can vary, with some facilities facing challenges such as overcrowding, long waiting times, and limited resources. Many expats and locals opt for private healthcare to ensure better quality and faster access to medical services. It is advisable to have comprehensive health insurance to cover any potential medical expenses," said another in Athens, Greece.
