35 looking to move to Costa Rica-need some advice

I am 35 and very interested in moving to Costa Rica. My work background is Political, I served as Finance and Political Director to the former Mayor of Miami. I'm at a point in my life where I am looking for something different. I want to move to Costa Rica, improve my spanish and immerse myself in the local culture. Unfortunately i am not independently wealthy and need to find a way to make an income. I would like to possibly find some work in a hotel and would be willing to work for room amd board if necessary.

I really want to make a jump but am a little fearful as this is a big risk and I would be doing it alone. I was thinking about Tamarindo, Santa Teresa but am open to most areas.

I would be greatful for any advice or ideas that someone may be able to give me.
