Visiting Aug 9-16

We are close to retirement (2 years) and looking at Costa Rica as a possible retirement opportunity. Visiting Aug 9 to 16 to see if we like the country (most likely considering the mountains). ANY advice is appreciated regarding the upcoming visit. Also, I've heard horror stories about moving furniture and/or vehicle to CR. Any truth to it? Thanks to all who can help.
