It's possible to successfully relocate, however the biggest risk is ignorance and through an informative website of laws you are not going to make it. Based on my 15 years of assisting literally hundreds of expats and companies move to Costa Rica I can assure you that the ones that succeed follow the advice of a qualified law firm, included in the list of attorneys of the US Embassy, with US education, with important representative clients and especially with a real understanding of how Costa Rica works, not just through the eyes and biased opinion of an expat pseudo guru. Once you have represented expats in various litigations and have knowledge on what their mistakes were and how the local legal system resolved them or not, only them you are in a position to provide solid advice. Most of the mistakes that we have witnessed originated on advice provided by opinionated pseudo gurus, expat advice is perfect for where to live, food, lodging, rentals, living and social but not for applying for residen y, purchasing assets, launching a business and legally related matters. I normally just read the posts but I cannot just sit back and relax when I see that there is a risk that dear expats are going to struggle and fail in my country because of lack of professional guidance, I don't want to have unjustified negative comments about my country as long as they are not caused by the country itself. Please hire a qualified attorney and avoid making terrible mistakes, ask for references, make sure that you can communicate with the attorney, investigate his or her credentials, ask to speak with other clients.
