North American populations in Costa Rica?

Hi, I have lived in Costa Rica for 2 1/2 years with my wife and teen aged son. We live in Palmares, Alajuela, which is what Ticos call the real Costa Rica. There are not many North Americans here, though there are expat communities in neighboring San Ramon, Atenas and Grecia.

I have been trying to find some actual numbers on expats living in Costa Rica and how many in what cities. It seems like Census information substantiates that there are around 14,000 legal residents from the USA and Canada, but I haven't found any backed up numbers for perpetual tourists, or people like us who live here but are in the residency process after 16 months and still are not legal residents. Does anyone know where I can find data for the number of English Speaking North Americans living in Costa Rica and in what cities/areas they are living in?

Thanks,
