Moving to Costa rica. A few questions

I will be taking my first trip to Costa Rica in April and will stay until May or June, just to get a feel of the country and see if it feels right for a more permanent move.

This is my situation:
- 27 year old Canadian living in Canada

- I have an internet business which has no connection to Costa Rica. I heard that you are not taxed in Costa rica on foreign income. Is that true?

- How is the banking system for foreigners? I heard some banks offer mutual funds and various investments. Are they relatively safe?

- Is it hard to become a resident (non tourist visa). Someone told me that if you show you have $40k liquid in your bank account they will allow you to stay in the country for one year.
Would I need to speak with a lawyer once I am there to get the paper work in place or do I need anything from Canada. How long does the process take? If I need a lawyer does anyone know one that they recommend.

Thank you in advance for your help :)
