This is the third time I've submitted this post. Curious why it hasn't appeared, wondering whether I've contravened a rule here...anyway...maybe third time's a charm.
Experiencing more of Ecuador…from inside the medical system!
The visiting Canadian son and I enjoyed WONDERFUL days on the coast, in the sun and surf.
Then I fell…badly broken arm requiring six hours of surgery, an eight inch metal plate and seven titanium screws, three days in hospital…all at Hospital Alcivar in Guayaquil.
The care was…EXCELLENT!
Immediate pain control in ER, taken to surgery within two hours…BEST physician follow up (both there and in Cuenca),
BEST nursing care.
This is my second experience needing emergency care here in Ecuador, and each experience has been as good as...perhaps even BETTER than…it might have been in North America.
I read so much on the inadequacies of medical care and the medical system here...not feeling great yet, but sure feeling grateful.
