This Public Announcement is being issued to announce that the Consular Section of the U.S. Liaison Office located in the Belgian Embassy in Tripoli, Libya, is now closed, pending its relocation. This announcement supplements the Travel Warning for Libya issued December 29, 2004 and expires on August 5, 2005.

Beginning April 25, 2005, the Consular Section of the U.S. Liaison Office in Tripoli, Libya, no longer operates out of the Belgian Embassy. The Liaison Office is currently in the process of re-locating the Consular Section. During this time public office hours will be suspended. However, American residents in and visitors to Libya needing emergency assistance may contact consular personnel by telephone (091-2200 1250) and email ). Americans in Libya seeking routine consular services may consult the Department of State's website for further information at An announcement giving the new location and hours of operation will be made when the office reopens.

U.S. citizens living or traveling in Libya, despite the Travel Warning for Libya, are urged to register and update their contact information at the nearest U.S. Embassy or through the Department of State's travel registration website at
