What advice would you give someone preparing to move to your area about the actual move, choosing a neighborhood and finding a home?

never rush into anything, look around the island first listen to friends or family that have returned to jamaica. i stayed with family before we built our house after i was sure thats were i wanted to live we went ahead and built. My biggest worry was i had three young children. i asked around about schools and we visited Belair school a private school in Mandeville. it is such a wonderful school. they kindergarten, Prep and High school, so no need to worry about changing schools. there is about 20 students to a class the education is so good i am sure they would never got any better education in the UK or US.

What type of housing do you live in? Is this typical for most expats in your area?

my three neighbors are from the UK. it is typical for most expats in my area.

How did you choose your neighborhood and find your home or apartment?

i find my neighborhood by looking around when we came out on holidays. we had a house built in Manchester

Are your housing costs higher or lower than they were in your home country? What is the average cost of housing there?

the house i have here i would never be able to have built that in the UK. i not sure how much it would cost now our house was built 10 years ago. if you are thinking about building ask around first about builders, we had plenty of people from the UK that had built so we asked them what problems they had. it can be difficult when you have no idea about building. you just need to be there when you are building. i heard about a lot things going wrong with people building, but we had no problems.
