I am a US citizen, currently living in Budapest. I am interested in moving to Belgium. Anyone familiar with the retirement visa or annuitant visa and what it requires?

I live in Belgium as a U.S. citizen and you must get a Cat-D visa from the Belgium embassy in the U.S.. biggest hurdle is showing that you can support yourself. So be sure to have all financial documents showing any income pensions or retirement accounts.

Thanks for your response. If you check the embassy's website you will see that a visa requires a showing of ties to Belgium, the embassy has no explanation of what that means, in order to get a visa. We have the finances and the health insurance. Ties are the question.

Where in Belgium do you live? How long have you been there? Did you retire there, or do you work there? My email is If you would like to continue the conversation with an American interested in coming to Belgium, I hope you will email me. Always looking for new friends.
