Family of 4 - Salary

New Topic Newest First

There has been much discussion on salaries here. Please can people give their views on a $150k salary for a family of four?

I am budgeting as follows each month:
$5k for 3 bed house
$4k for private school (2 kids)
$400 utilities
$400 mobile / internet
$1600 food (for 4 people)
$100 transport
$1000 entertainment

Then separately some one off costs - car, scooter, shipping etc.

Please tell me what I am missing and if these numbers are too conservative / high.

Thanks!

$100 per month for transport is also a bit low.

The only realistic public transport is buses and you can buy tickets in advance.- $25 for 15 tickets is the most economic way ($37.50 for further journies. https://www.gov.bm/bus-fares

So $100 per person per month is a more realistic budget.

I have never used a taxi, but I understand taxi fares are $50+ per trip, whatever the distance

It is expensive!!

Some expats (like me) will be happy to help with lifts etc. though. I have plenty of free time as I decided not to bring my family. Also there are ways of saving on grocery bills.

If you want to live like the UK, I am afraid that wont work. Remember, your choice of food will be very severely limited,
A loaf of bread will set you back $6, for what I'd class as very mediocre, sugar laden stuff. I bake my own sourdough now.

Cheese? Naaah! horrible stuff

PM me if you want to keep in touch and further advice

Just to clarify the government health insurance is around $500 per person per month. So for a fmaily of 4, assuming the employer covers your HI, you will still have some $1500 per person per month. Unless of course your employer covers the rest of your family also
