Emigrating what can I bring with me?

Hi,
Really hope someone can help as I'm finding it very difficult to get answers. We are hoping to move to Sri Lanka from the UK in July this year but are very unsure what we are allowed to import from our home eg furniture, fridges, tvs, radios, etc Do we need special permits, are we liable to customs duty and if so how much? Have tried emailing Sri Lankan Customs but they referred us to their website which is not at all helpful.
What has anyone else done? We are starting to wonder if the Sri Lankans don't want people emigrating to their country as they seem to be making it so difficult.
Any advice much appreciated.
