I am going to retire in Split. Does anyone know if 4,000 canadian a month be enough to cover rent, food and leisure expenses. What should i expect for rent?

Actually thinking about it, I am not sure how one would spend $4,000 a month in Croatia. Though if you wanted to spend time visiting western Europe or big toys, say a boat) -most Croatians can live a civilized life on $1,500 to $1,800 a month.

Agree. Its definitely enough as Long as you are nit a shoppaholic. Food and coffee outings and cheap meal treats would fit. But you need to be away from the actual center of town due to tourist ripoff rates. Start looking at nearby areas its definitely doable

You can easily live on that amount in Croatia- most Croatians live on less, especially after the first year and being part of Croatian health care system.

The issue though is whether you live in Split or near it- prices higher in Split due to tourist presence. Unless you read Croatian most rents advertised on line are geared to tourists. As with anywhere best to live there 6 months and get a feel for which area you would prefer and ask locals. Personally would recommend living outside Split itself- people will be nicer and costs will be lower.

Dont know what leisure expenses you refer to but one can live comfortable in Croatia on 4000$ a month,
