What is it like to retire in Zadar?

"Life for a retiree in Zadar can be quite pleasant and fulfilling. The city is known for its rich history, stunning architecture, and beautiful coastline, offering a peaceful and scenic environment for retirees. There are numerous cultural attractions to explore, including the Roman Forum, St. Anastasia's Cathedral, and the Sea Organ, an architectural sound art object that plays music by way of sea waves. Zadar is also home to a number of parks and outdoor spaces, providing ample opportunities for recreation. Retirees can enjoy activities such as walking, cycling, and sailing. The city's Mediterranean climate makes it possible to enjoy outdoor activities for most of the year. While Zadar is not as bustling as some larger cities, it does offer a variety of nightlife options. There are numerous bars and restaurants in the city, many of which offer live music. The city also hosts a number of festivals and events throughout the year, providing opportunities for socializing and entertainment. As for the expat community, while it may not be as large as in some other European cities, it is certainly present and active. There are several expat groups and organizations that host regular meetups and events, providing a sense of community and support for those living abroad. Many retirees find that the locals are friendly and welcoming, making it easy to integrate into the local community. In terms of healthcare, Zadar has a number of hospitals and clinics, and the standard of healthcare is generally high. However, it's worth noting that while many doctors and medical staff speak English, this is not always the case, so some retirees choose to learn some basic Croatian to help navigate the healthcare system. Overall, Zadar offers a relaxed and enjoyable lifestyle for retirees, with a good mix of cultural attractions, recreational activities, and social opportunities," said a retiree who moved to Zadar, Croatia.
