What advice do overseas retirees have for others considering retiring abroad?

"Retirees in Kilkenny, suggest that those considering retiring abroad should thoroughly research their desired location, including its cost of living, healthcare system, and cultural norms. They recommend visiting the location multiple times at different times of the year to get a feel for the climate and lifestyle. It's also important to consider the language barrier and whether you're willing to learn a new language if necessary. They advise future retirees to understand the tax implications of moving abroad and to consult with a financial advisor. They also suggest making connections with locals and other expats to help ease the transition. Lastly, they emphasize the importance of maintaining a positive attitude and being open to new experiences," explained a retiree in Kilkenny.

What are the most challenging aspects of retiring in Kilkenny?

"One of the most challenging aspects of retiring in Kilkenny could be the high cost of living, especially in terms of housing and healthcare. The weather can also be a challenge, as Ireland is known for its rainy and cloudy climate, which might not be suitable for everyone, especially those with certain health conditions. The language barrier could also pose a challenge, although English is widely spoken, the Irish accent can be difficult to understand for some. Access to certain services and amenities may also be limited, especially in more rural areas outside of the city. Additionally, the process of moving and adjusting to a new country can be stressful and challenging, particularly for older individuals. Lastly, retirees may also face challenges in terms of social isolation, especially if they do not have existing social networks in Ireland," said one retiree in Kilkenny.
