What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Ensenada?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Ensenada about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Mexico. Public healthcare is available, but many expats opt for private healthcare due to shorter waiting times and often higher standards of care. Ensure you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care. Some insurance policies may have a waiting period for maternity coverage, so plan ahead. Find a reputable obstetrician or midwife who speaks your language, or consider hiring a translator for appointments. Communication is key during this important time. Research and visit local hospitals or birthing centers to find one that suits your needs and comfort level. Some may offer birthing classes or tours to help you prepare. Understand the local customs and practices around childbirth. In Mexico, it's common for only the father or one family member to be present during the birth. Prepare all necessary documentation for your baby's birth certificate and passport. As an expat, you'll need to register the birth with your home country's embassy or consulate to ensure your child's citizenship. Consider hiring a doula or birth coach who can provide emotional support and advocate for your wishes during labor and delivery. Lastly, connect with other expat parents or join local parenting groups for support and advice. They can provide valuable insights and recommendations based on their own experiences," wrote a member who made the move to Ensenada, Mexico.
