What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Palma de Mallorca. They wrote...
"Expats in Palma de Mallorca often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as the majority of the population speaks Spanish or Catalan. The slower pace of life, known as "maƱana culture", can also be a challenge for those used to a faster, more immediate lifestyle. Some expats may struggle with the local customs and traditions, such as the late dining times and the siesta in the afternoon. The bureaucracy in Spain is also often cited as a challenge, with processes such as obtaining residency or setting up utilities being more complicated and time-consuming than in other countries. Lastly, while the island is generally welcoming to foreigners, some expats may experience a sense of isolation or difficulty integrating into the local community," commented one expat who made the move to Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
