What do I need to know before retiring in Nosara?

Answer this Question

When we asked people what advice they would give someone preparing to move to Nosara, they said...

"Expats considering retirement in Nosara should be aware that the cost of living can be higher than in other parts of Costa Rica, due to its popularity with tourists and expats. They should also know that while English is widely spoken, learning some Spanish can greatly enhance their experience. Healthcare in Costa Rica is of a high standard and affordable, but it's recommended to have a private health insurance. The climate in Nosara is tropical, with a dry season from December to April and a rainy season from May to November. Nosara is known for its strong sense of community, so newcomers are encouraged to get involved in local activities and organizations. The town is also renowned for its commitment to sustainability, with a ban on hunting and a dedication to preserving its natural surroundings. While crime rates are relatively low, petty crime such as theft can occur, so it's important to take standard precautions. The infrastructure in Nosara is not as developed as in some other areas, so roads can be rough and power outages can occur. Expats should also be aware that while Nosara offers a relaxed lifestyle, it can also be quite isolated, with the nearest large city, Nicoya, about an hour away. Finally, it's important to understand the residency and visa requirements for living in Costa Rica, as well as the potential tax implications," said a member in Nosara, Costa Rica.
