Hi, I hope it's alright to post this here! I was hoping some expats or others currently living in Mexico could give me some advice. I am about to graduate from college in the U.S. and I really need to continue working on my spanish skills as I am interested in going into social work, for which fluent spanish is very advantageous. My problem is that I hardly have any money saved and I need to start paying my college loans soon after I graduate, so I don't know how I can possibly move to Mexico and take spanish lessons. I lived in Cuernavaca for several months my sophomore year and despite prices being cheaper than the U.S. I certainly spent more than I thought I would! What I was thinking was that perhaps I could work as a nanny for a family in Mexico, since I have years and years of experience with children of all ages. In exchange for providing childcare perhaps the family could provide me with a place to live, meals, and even a little speding money, just like any other nanny position. Ideally I would be able to take a few hours of spanish classes a day too. So my question is, do you think any family would actually be interested in me doing this? Although I'm sure there are an abundance of childcare possiblities locally I thought I might appeal to an american or european family living there since I have experience working in American schools and childcare centers. I also have no idea how to go about connecting with foriegn families in Mexico, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please e-mail me at [email protected]. Thank you so much for your time!!
