Single female renting in San Carlos

I'm looking to rent a place in San Carlos for three months next year to explore the area as a possible place to relocate to. I've been doing a lot of research on the area but one thing I haven't found is information on which part(s) of town are best (or worst) for a single female to live. Are there any areas that you'd highly recommend? Areas to absolutely avoid?

I'm coming in cold, have not yet been to SC and looking at this as an adventure. BUT - I want to be smart about choosing the place I'll be staying at.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
