Summary: There are numerous international and bilingual schools in Budapest. In this article, we highlight some of the more popular international schools school for expats in Budapest.

Britannica International School

Britannica International School welcomes students from ages 6 through Year 13 (age 17 - 18). The school moved to a new campus in 2010 in a quiet, beautiful area in the Buda Hills (District XII) overlooking the city. A parent with children at Britannica International School said, "it's a very friendly school with very good and caring teachers and a family atmosphere. There is very good support for children whose English is weak, and it is a very inclusive school. It's a purpose-built building in a nice green area. It has playgrounds and a gym and there is a football field next to the school and swimming pool nearby. There are lots of clubs - every night - drama, sports, music, jewelry-making, languages." Another parent said, "the school offers IGCSE and AICE. It is a Cambridge Local Examination Centre. It is student centered and has a warm, positive atmosphere. It is the best choice you can make if you want your child to have an excellent education."

Budapest British International School (BBIS)

Budapest British International School

Budapest British International School (BBIS) (pictured above) is a family-run, COBIS accredited British international eco-school located in the heart of leafy Buda for current ages 4-14. Their boutique, small class sizes limited to 16 for Primary and 18 for Secondary offer personalised learning from friendly, highly trained teachers. They are the only school in Hungary to offer the prestigious IB Middle Years Program (MYP) and their gold standard partnerships and enrichment themes encourage growth mindset development. They have a brand new building which will open for September 2020 with state of the art, purpose-built indoor and outdoor facilities, offering a fully immersive and holistic educational experience. In addition to their high quality curriculum they offer over 50 extra-curricular activities. "When I think of BBIS, I think of balance, open-mindedness, curiosity and kindness. BBIS's friendly teaching staff are nurturing their students to understand and practice these fundamental values. It's not just marketing chatter; these values genuinely underpin the school's mission. I feel secure with my two children being in BBIS's capable hands," said Peter O.J. Grundberg, Business Development, BrodyLand.

International School of Budapest

International School of Budapest is located in the Normafa region of District XII. It is an International School and a Hungarian-English Bilingual School. "We chose ISB for its size and its bilingual program. We wanted our children to learn Hungarian - their father's language. For the most part, it has been a success. Our son will remain in the bilingual program; our daughter will join the international (English-only teaching) this fall, as there is no bilingual program at her level. We have been very happy with the school. It is a warm, caring environment. The children are well-behaved. The transition was easy for our children. It has been wonderful for our children to meet kids from all over the world. The curriculum is equal to or more advanced to the private school they attended in Colorado," praised one parent with children at ISB.

British International School Budapest

British International School Budapest is one option, which welcomes students from pre school through IB. It is located in District III. One expat parent said, "the school follows the UK curriculum. There is a lot to choose from. The school is very flexible and keen to offer a very wide range of reliable facilities which allow the kids to achieve their full potential."

American International School of Budapest (AISB)

American International School of Budapest (AISB) is on a beautiful, 30+ acre campus in Nagykovacsi. It's a 20-30 minutes car ride northwest of the center of Budapest, depending upon traffic. Le Lycee Francais Gustave Eiffel de Budapest (a.k.a. Lycee Francais de Budapest) is a French school located in District II, one of Budapest's most desirable residential areas. It welcomes student from pre-school through Grade 12. "My daughter graduated from the lycee several years ago, so my report may not be the most up-to-date. But I can say that she in now perfectly fluent in French thanks to the lycee. The lycee's small size provided a warm environment, as well as an excellent education. We also found that coming from a different system proved to be an advantage when applying to colleges back in the US," said one mother whose daughter graduated from Lycee Francais de Budapest.

Just curious, I see you posted here and about retiring in Portugal, but when I went to your Google+ page, you are credited with a number of articles from various countries, but live in my former home state of New Jersey. How do you do multi-locate? I would love to be able to do it. Dr. Ryan James Budapest [email protected]
