Expats in Denver will find a unique culture that combines an independent spirit with a profound love for the outdoors. Technology companies abound in this quintessential Rocky Mountain state.

Expats in Denver find themselves immersed in a culture that prizes outdoor living and independence that can be traced all the way back to the frontiersmen and miners that defined the state long before it was transformed into a outdoor recreational paradise.

How Expats Can Make Friends In Denver

One expat in Denver suggested that new expats "join a community theater, join a gym, [or] go camping. Once you get a job it's really easy to make friends. Same with college and such. Bars and clubs are also a good spot."

Things to Do in Colorado When You're... An Expat

Another expat living in Denver wrote that you should "be prepared to accept and embrace adventure - the great outdoors is what Colorado is all about, be it snow skiing, mountain biking, rafting, exploring our fourteeners, fishing in mountain streams and lakes, camping, etc., [and] all within an hour's drive of downtown Denver! Coloradans live a simpler, less hustle-and-bustle life, allowing time to focus on what's important - quality of life for our families and friends alike."

Denver has amazing restaurants with a wide variety of cuisines to choose from. However, the options don't end there, as expats will find Boulder, another great city 35 minutes north of Denver, has been called the foodiest places in America.

Expats Should Understand Life Philosophy of Most People in Colorado

As noted above, people in Denver have a great passion for the outdoors and other hobbies and they think of work as a way to finance the lifestyle that surrounds these activities. In short, expats find that people in Colorado "don't live to work, they work to live."

Having lived in Boulder and spent a lot of time in Denver, I heard that saying a lot, and it is very important for expats to understand in order to successfully settle into life in Colorado.

Denver Has A Variety of Neighborhoods To Choose From

Denver's Neighborhoods are diverse and offer something for every expat. Here are some options for expats to consider, but remember there are a lot more options:

Washington Park in South Central Denver contains the urban park it shares its name with, is one of the safer neighborhoods in the city, and has some great restaurants. This is a great site for more information about Washington Park.

Capitol Hill retains nice character while also being in close proximity to the Central Business District.
