Experiences with UDI

I will post another question in a moment about Skatteetaten in a moment since I'm trying to "compartmentalise" these posts.

A prominent politician, a household name in the UK, has recently asked me to gather information on foreign workers, not just British who feel they have been abused by the Norwegian authorities.

Please post your experiences here and I'll see which ones apply.

In my case, the excuse I didn't need a residence permit because I was an EU Citizen has been used since 2 months after my son was born in Norway first NOT to renew a residence permit I had in 1998 and secondly NOT to just the application for a new residence permit which, I must admit, I am reluctant to do since my "immigration record" has already been "blighted" by the Norwegian immigration department.

I have no residence permit in Norway after working there for 22 years and if I try and settle anywhere other than the UK, I may well be asked to reveal if an application for a residence permit, or the renewal of one has ever been refused by another country and I will have to reveal that Norway, having issued me with a residence permit in 1998 refused to renew it in 1999. This doesn't look good for me. I CAN stay in Norway if I work, which I do but my work often takes me out of Norway which gives UDI the prtext not to give me a residence permit.

A Norwegian can take a job for a day in Sweden and they still "live" in Norway. I can't do the same thing without changing my residency status.

The implications are extremely serious for me. I'm not on the electoral roll in the UK but don't "live" in Norway, don't have a residence permit I can show the police outside of Norway if they want to know why a British citizen is driving a Norwegian registered car (which I am obliged to do under the Norwegian customs laws). The list is almost endless.

I know there was recently a spat between the Swedish and Norwegian governments about Swedes working in Norway being obliged to "move" to Norway so all the Swedes living just over the border and driving to work in Norway plus the migrant Swedes would have been affected.

Please, without starting any flame wars, let me have your experiences and I'll see if I can help.
