Reliable Mail PLEASE

Mail is VERY important to my roommate. So much so that the “mess” that she has encountered with receiving packages (parcels) from the US has put her “over the edge” and soon back to America. There has got to be an answer for heaven’s sake!!!

First the story, then the discussion. (1) Marilyn wrongfully asked her current tenant (in the US) to mail the cough syrup that is effective in controlling her cough from post nasal drip and gerd. The package was mailed via regular post office. BIG MISTAKE! The medicine has narcotics in it and cannot be allowed in Nicaragua. My roommate had to sign a letter saying that it was okay to throw that out. Her fault. Live and learn. (2) Next she asked her tenant to mail packaged food products (NutriSystems) such as her protein drinks. That was mailed via regular post office and she got that shipment after 1 month. (3) Then she asked for more NutriSystem protein drinks and that was mailed via regular post office on September 3rd and it still hasn’t arrived. (4) Then her niece mailed her Frontline flea/tick for the cat, a bottle of amoxillan (500 mg tablets) and a majic jack phone system. That package was mailed in mid-August and still has not arrived. That was sent UPS. (5) Today, Marilyn finally gets a large package delivered to our home from TransExpress. It contained 3 (three) separate packages. 2 packages had been mailed from US post office and 1 package had been mailed via UPS. BUT they all somehow arrived at TransExpress and were opened and re-boxed into one box. So why did the US post office packages land up at TransExpress? Why did the UPS package land up in TransExpress? Very curious / strange! Why?

TRULY … there must be a “real” answer to this question. WHO is most reliable in the delivery of mail from USA to Managua, Nicaragua. The experiences that my roommate has gone through are astronomically out of proportion. Can there really be that much inefficiency?/ corruption? /theft? in customs? In Miami customs? Or Managua customs? Is it just the laborious / nevertheless riciculous way to doing things in Nicaragua?

MajicJack, a contributor to the Expat Exchange forum, Nicaragua, states that he has has no problem with the Post Office in Nicaragua. Perhaps it is necessary to get an actual BOX from the post office for consistency. Does it depend on where you live?
I have read and read and read until I am cross-eyed. No one person seems to have a consistently plausible answer. I went to a great many sites but found no real "chewable" info:

(1) Oficina de Correos de Nicaragua
6 21a Avenida S.O, Managua
(2) TransExpress
(3) Aeropost
(4) DHL
(5) UPS
I did read the April 30, 2007 article in Nicaragua Living and have found NO substantially useable answers there.
Yes, I did go to sites like Nicaragua Living, The NicaSaga etc etc. I worked very hard at finding an answer and came up with blanks. We Need Help to prevent this nonsense from continuing. There has to be answer!
THERE JUST HAS TO BE A WAY TO RELIABLY GET MAIL!
