LOL #8 (?) PURISIMA ... Oh My!

OMG! My poor dog! The thunder issue is bad enough ... now I have to sedate her so that she doesn't lose her little doggy mind altogether while bombas blast away ALL day.

In Matagalpa, when the civil defense sounding siren went off at 6:00 pm. all H_LL broke lose. This was of course after listening to a truck drive by with mega loud speakers playing (I think) "I Love Mary" in Spanish 40 gadzillion times, over and over for 3 hours!!! That began at 3:00 pm.

I know what a bomba is. I know that bombas are used for every saint day in the book and perhaps some other reasons that I am not aware of ... BUT the big question is why? Is it to scare away evil spirits? Is it an expression of "hi, how are you God?" Is it a festive gesture in overkill? Why so often ... so much ... so repeatedly? There has to be a LOGICAL explanation other than "I don't know ... it's just that way."

My landlord told me that all of December is like that. He said if I thought my dog was missing, I should look under the bed. LOL No kidding! Me too doggie!!!

Seriously. How did bombas become part of the history of December / Christmas celebrations? Why bombas? Why not ... ummm ... lots of music or lots of candle lighting or whatever?

ANYBODY KNOW THE HISTORY OF THIS TRADITION???
