"The cost of living in St. James can be considered moderate to high, depending on the lifestyle one chooses to lead. Rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the city center can be quite expensive, while outside the city center, it is somewhat cheaper. The cost of utilities such as electricity, heating, cooling, water, and garbage is also a significant monthly expense. Groceries in St. James can be pricey, especially for imported goods. Local produce and products are generally cheaper. Eating out at restaurants can range from moderately priced at local spots to very expensive at high-end establishments. Transportation costs in St. James are relatively low, with affordable public transportation and reasonably priced gasoline for those who drive. However, owning a car can be expensive due to high import taxes. Healthcare in Barbados is of a high standard, but it can be costly, especially for non-residents. It is recommended to have comprehensive health insurance to cover any medical expenses. Lastly, leisure activities such as gym memberships, cinema tickets, and outdoor activities can add to the monthly budget. Despite the costs, many people find the high quality of life, beautiful surroundings, and friendly community in St. James, Barbados to be worth the expense," remarked one expat in St. James.
