The country has both public and private healthcare, and as an expat, you may be eligible for free or subsidized healthcare if you are a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) holder. Secondly, ensure you have a good health insurance plan that covers maternity costs. Some private health insurance plans may not cover pregnancy and childbirth, so it's crucial to check this in advance. Thirdly, start looking for a suitable obstetrician or midwife early in your pregnancy. You can ask for recommendations from other expats or locals. Fourthly, consider taking prenatal classes. These can be a great way to prepare for childbirth and to meet other expectant parents. Fifthly, if you don't speak Greek, you might want to find a doctor who speaks your language. Communication is key during pregnancy and childbirth, and you'll want to be able to fully understand and be understood by your healthcare provider. Sixthly, be aware that the approach to childbirth may be different in Cyprus than in your home country. For example, C-sections are quite common in Cyprus. If you have specific wishes for your birth plan, discuss these with your doctor early on. Lastly, after the baby is born, you'll need to register the birth with your home country's embassy or consulate to ensure your child's citizenship.
