What advice do you have for expats having a baby in El Nido?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in El Nido about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in the Philippines. While El Nido is a beautiful place, it is also quite remote and may not have the same level of healthcare facilities as larger cities. Therefore, you may want to consider traveling to a larger city for the birth. Ensure you have comprehensive health insurance that covers both you and your baby. Check if your insurance covers prenatal care, childbirth, and any potential complications. Find a good obstetrician who speaks your language and understands your cultural expectations about childbirth. This will make the process much smoother and less stressful. Prepare for the possibility of a home birth or a birth in a birthing center, as these are common in the Philippines. However, always have a plan in place for hospital transfer in case of complications. Take prenatal classes if they are available. These can help you understand what to expect during labor and delivery, and can also be a great way to meet other expectant parents. Ensure your passport and visa are up to date, and understand the process for registering your baby's birth and getting them a passport and visa if necessary. Finally, embrace the local culture and traditions. Filipinos are generally very family-oriented and welcoming, and you may find that you have a lot of support from your local community," said a member in El Nido, Philippines.
