What are healthcare services like in Siargao?

Answer this Question

We asked retirees if they have access to good medical care in Siargao. They wrote...

"Healthcare services in Siargao are relatively basic, with a few small hospitals and clinics scattered across the island. The main hospital, Siargao District Hospital, is located in Dapa and offers general medical services. There are also several rural health units and barangay health stations providing primary healthcare services to the local communities. However, these facilities may not be equipped to handle serious medical emergencies or complex treatments. For specialized medical care or emergencies, patients often have to be transported to larger hospitals in Surigao City or Cebu. It's also important to note that while some healthcare providers may speak English, the primary language spoken is Visayan or Surigaonon. Health insurance is highly recommended for visitors, as payment for healthcare services is usually expected upfront," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Siargao, Philippines.
