As a foreigner living in Penang, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?
We asked expats in Penang if they have access to public healthcare in Penang. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...
"As a foreigner living in Penang, you will have access to public healthcare, but it is important to note that public hospitals prioritize Malaysian citizens. The public healthcare system in Malaysia is generally of good quality, with well-trained medical professionals and modern facilities. However, you may experience longer waiting times and less personalized care compared to private healthcare facilities. Many expats and foreigners choose to opt for private healthcare, which offers shorter waiting times and a higher standard of care, but at a higher cost. It is recommended to have comprehensive health insurance to cover any medical expenses while living in Malaysia," wrote a member who made the move to Penang, Malaysia.
