Be aware of the different types of property available, such as apartments, villas, and townhouses. 5. Understand the process of obtaining a mortgage in Spain, if you are planning to finance the purchase. 6. Familiarize yourself with the Spanish real estate market, to ensure you are getting the best deal. 7. Make sure to get a surveyor to inspect the property before you buy it. 8. Be aware of the different types of contracts available, such as a private contract or a public deed. 9. Understand the different types of taxes associated with buying property in Spain, such as the Plusvalía tax. 10. Consider the different types of insurance you may need to purchase, such as home insurance," commented one expat who made the move to Madrid, Spain.
