What cultural faux pas should I try to avoid making in Bahamas?
We asked people in Bahamas if they could share any humorous cultural blunders they commited. For new expats, keep in mind that these incidents are an inevitable part of expat life. Learning to laugh about them is the key!...
"Yes, too many to name but the one that stands out is refusing to pay 15% gratuity on service/no service and complaining on a regular basis to managers," remarked another expat in Nassau, Bahamas.
"In The Bahamas, it is important to dress appropriately out of respect for the local culture. Beachwear should be restricted to the beach and public displays of affection should be limited in public places. Additionally, referring to the locals by nicknames is considered impolite and visitors should not take photographs of people without their permission. It is also important to show respect to religious sites and national monuments by refraining from loud or disruptive behavior," said a member in Bahamas.
