Thailand a week after the coup

It is now safe to visit Thailand. In fact it has been safe despite the protests and the coups - in most areas.
Despite the screams, moans and whining of the western governments, western media and some of the local media for what they call "democracy", the coup began to benefit the people of Thailand within the first couple of days. For one example 800,000 rice farmers that were owed nearly 100 billion baht money by the former government are being paid after waiting since 2013. At least 10 farmers committed suicide, a horrendous sin in a Buddhism, the national religion. I have friends and family that are in rice farming and they were not paid as promised by contract. In other words the previo0us government did not honor its obligations. Thailand is not and never has been a "democracy", which is the rule of the majority, and the majority can do as it pleases with no brakes to ensure that it respects the rights of anyone else. Thailand since 1932 has been a constitutional monarchy. It encompasses some democratic principles, but it is not a democracy.
Today the coup leaders announced a 3 point proposal to return to an elected government, which includes the coup as the first stage followed by a stage in which reform council will prepare needed changes to the constitution as well as legislative changes Stage 3 will be elections.
If you are planning to visit or live here, I recommend that you go to www.thaivisa.com and sign up for the news alerts, so you can keep track of what is going on, as well as getting news alerts from www.bangkokpost.com
Having been through many coups and protests her, I can say with certainty that they can be easily avoided if you keep up to date with the events. And there are places even in Bangkok where one would never know that a coup of protest is even happening. I know. I live in one of them.
When reading the news, it is well to keep in mind that bad news sells, protests and civil wars sell better than coup leaders helping the people. So come visit and enjoy.
