Expat Advice: Relationships in Barcelona, Spain

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Barcelona

What is your current status? Are you single, dating, in a long-term relationship, married or divorced?

Single

What is it like in your country of residence for someone with your relationship status (married/divorced/dating)? If you're single, how do you meet other people? Do English-speaking people tend to gravitate to certain parts of your city?

I am in my mid 30's and it is a bit difficult to meet quality men my age being that the local culture is rather closed (the catalan people) and aren't always open to taking the risk of meeting someone who isn't catalan. But aside from this, Barcelona is a fun city in which to be single. There is a lot to do and eventually, you do meet people. The men, local and not, are a lot more friendly in the bars and clubs and it is possible to date here. To find a serious relationship, that is a bit more of a challenge. English people are all over.

What would be the best advice you could give someone with your relationship status that lives in your country of residence? Any other thoughts?

Get out and about. There is something for everyone. Bars, clubs, restaurants, dance, sports, the beach. And don't take it personally if you are not getting "checked out or looked at" on the street. This is not an eye contact city. I have confirmed this with all of my women friends.
