What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

International School Hamburg

In what town or city is this school located?

Hamburg

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International

What grade levels are represented at this school?

PK-12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

By car, train or bus. Some children walk or cycle.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The facilities are very poor, except for the two libraries, which are excellent. The Gym has no space for parents to sit to watch their children playing a game. There are no outdoor facilities. Extra curricular activities are limited to NECIS sports, no sports within the local community.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

There are no programs for repatriation that I am aware of. No transition program.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There is a PTA which organizes coffee mornings, and a few scattered events throughout the year, mostly fund raising events.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Don't come to Hamburg. The International School of Hamburg has very few motivated, good teachers. Some teachers seem to forget that they are here to teach the children. They are only interested in their personal well being. There is no interaction with the local community. The IB options are limited, there is no Economics or Psychology offered. The Physics teachers do not know how to prepare their students for the IB exams. The Primary School is excellent.
