Summary: The number of people interested in becoming a digital nomad continues to grow, and Chiang Mai is considered by many to be one of the top destinations in the World. Find out why this city in Northern Thailand is so alluring to digital nomads throughout the world.

In many parts of the world, Digital Nomads are a growing part of the expat population. Chiang Mai, Thailand, however, takes it to entirely different level.

And that makes complete sense. Expats in Chiang Mai are drawn to the great weather and the access to a robust network of other digital nomads in Chiang Mai.

But let's not pretend it's perfect (where is?). Here are some thoughts about Chiang Mai from other expats in Thailand.

Living in Chiang Mai

In a culture shock report about Chiang Mai, an expat reported: "I skipped the honeymoon phase and experienced the others. I have lived here five years, and I'm still in the cultural adjustment phase. Thai people are kind, friendly, and gentle. But the culture is complex. It is very easy to make social mistakes, especially if you don't know the language. Fortunately, Thais are very tolerant."

Another noted: "Our friends are here and it is the perfect little soi. Not to quiet, not to noisy. The house was just perfect for us. It is in the city of Chiang Mai and close to everything. But, the pollution is getting bad. We may have to move up on the mountain."

So with that balanced assessment, there still is a big draw for digital nomads. What is it about this Northern Thailand city that sets it apart?

Living Space for Digital Nomads in Chiang Mai

Start with Airbnb Chiang Mai when you look for a place to live, but realize that you probably will not find the best prices online.

Some people aren't going to be comfortable going to another country without having housing lined up for the duration of your stay. For others, especially those that are more comfortable being abroad, booking for a short stay and then hunting for better offers when you hit the ground makes the most sense... especially if you're not sure how long you'll end up being in Chiang Mai. This is where seasoned digital nomads really learn how to stretch their dollars, but making this leap when you're not as experienced comes with risks. Make your decisions accordingly!
